History of Disney MGM Studios Theme Park. Disney MGM Studios, the third park in Walt Disney World resort was opened on 1st May 1989. The theme park is now known as Disney Hollywood Studios. Disney - MGM Studios was modeled on Hollywood and show business of the 30s and 40s.

In 2007, MGM Studios came in the top 4 most visited amusement parks in the country and among the top 7 worldwide by setting a record guest visit of 9 million.


Disney MGM Studios: Attractions for Visitors
Disney - MGM Studios is designed to completely resemble an original movie studio set, and it features 6 varieties of themed locations. The entrance of the area gives you the opportunity to walk down the Hollywood Boulevard. Here you can gather memorable souvenirs either for yourself or to take back home for the folks.

If you want to see the legends of the small screen being busted, then you should not at all miss A.T.A.S. Hall of Fame Plaza. The legends could both be from the yester-years or the present show biz. Hollywood Boulevard features another exciting attraction for visitors, “The Great Movie Ride” that takes you through an adventurous tour of the great movies from the past.

Disney MGM Studios: Where Two Coasts of America Come Together

Disney – MGM Studios brings together the flair of Chicago and San Francisco with the fast life of the New York set on the “Streets of America”. This themed area is studded with a multitude of adventure sets for visitors to stroll through – the Studio Backlot tour, the Jim Henson Muppet Vision 3D, the Honey I Shrunk the Kids set and more to count.

Another themed area in this one of the greatest Attractions in Orlando, Disney Hollywood Studios is the Mickey Avenue. Visitors can get up-close with the original pieces from the sets of the movie, Narnia at the Journey into Narnia. And, for the kids, do not miss the Toy Story Mania in this third themed area in MGM Studios.

Disney MGM Studios: Animation Attractions
The fourth section of MGM Studios is dedicated to the spirit of fantasies and adventures for the kids – The Animation Courtyard. It features Pixar and Disney animated icons from the past and present years. The Little Mermaid show takes the kids through the fantasies of the angelic sea virgin. The Playhouse Disney Live on Stage features live character puppet performance, there is nothing better for kids than running into ‘in person’ Disney characters on the streets of Animation Courtyard.

Disney MGM Studios: The Adventure seems not to end
The most recent section of Disney - MGM Studios, Sunset Boulevard is the latest member of the Studios. The Boulevard is the symbolic of ‘thrill & suspense’ for the MGM Studios. It is meant only for the strong at heart because it boasts the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the inside roller, the Aerosmith’s Rock-n-Roller Coaster.

And for the light-hearted the Boulevard houses the Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage performance.
